Champion stream · leaders, HR and committees
Mental health training for managers, supervisors and HR
Champion is for the people who will run your psychological health and safety program. About 10.5 hours online across all eight modules, the practical day with extra roles, and a written 90-day plan for your own organization.
Who it’s for
The people who carry the program.
Champions respond to individuals like every Responder, and they also find the workplace hazards behind the pattern and plan what to change.
Supervisors and managers
Often the first to see a change in someone, and the ones who set workload and expectations.
HR and people leaders
Building or refreshing a psychological health and safety program and needing trained people to run it.
JHSC members and safety managers
Adding psychological hazards to the hazards they already manage. More for committees →
Online
About 10.5 hours across all eight modules.
Champions complete everything in the Responder stream, then the modules on running a program. Each module quiz must be passed at 80% or better before the practical day.
- Everything Responders learn: foundations, the 13 workplace factors, the 4C Pathway and critical events.
- Finding hazards: spotting psychological hazards in how work is organized, and rating them.
- Building the plan: turning what you find into actions your organization can take.
- Measuring results: checking whether the changes are working.
In person
The same practical day, plus tabletop and mini-audit roles.
Champions train alongside Responders on the practical day, so leaders and front-line staff rehearse the same steps together. Champions also take on roles in the tabletop exercise on a critical event and in a mini-audit.
The bar: the Responder bar (lead at least two scenarios to standard, including one crisis) plus a written 90-day plan for your own organization.

How it connects to your program
Training that feeds a management system.
The course is mapped to every normative clause of CAN/CSA-Z1003-13/BNQ 9700-803, the voluntary National Standard of Canada for psychological health and safety in the workplace.
Higher expectations for leaders
The Standard asks more of leaders, and the Champion stream is where the course delivers that.
Critical event preparedness
Crisis scenarios and the tabletop exercise give your team a rehearsed response.
Confidential hazard reporting
Close the loop builds de-identified hazard reporting into everyday conversations.
What the course can’t do. No training makes an organization conform to CSA Z1003 on its own. Conformance depends on your whole program. Read more on our CSA Z1003 page.
One booking, both streams
You can mix streams in one booking: front-line staff take Responder, and the people who will lead your program take Champion. Both groups attend the same practical day, with a maximum of 12 learners for every pair of facilitators.
