The practical day
Scenario-based mental health training, done in person
After the online modules, learners spend one full day doing, not watching. Small groups rehearse realistic workplace scenes with trained facilitators and actors, and debrief every one.
What happens on the day
Four kinds of practice.
Learners lead some scenes, observe others, and take part in every debrief.
- Skills drillsOpening the conversation, listening without fixing, and asking about suicide directly.
- Scored scenariosRealistic scenes, including a crisis, scored against a clear observer checklist.
- Tabletop exerciseHow your team prepares for, responds to and recovers from a critical event.
- Hazard registerTurning what people notice into de-identified hazards your program can fix.
Small groups
Everyone practises. Nobody hides at the back.
There is a maximum of 12 learners for every pair of facilitators, so each person gets real time leading scenes, not just watching them.
Every scenario ends in a structured debrief that starts with the same question: what zone was the person in? That shared language is what makes the skills stick back at work.

The bar
Scored, so you know it worked.
Responders
Lead at least two scenarios to standard, including one crisis.
Champions
Meet the Responder bar and write a 90-day plan for their own organization.
Everyone
Passes every online module quiz at 80% or better before the day.
Where it runs
Often at your own workplace.
Practical days often run at the employer’s own site, which saves travel and lets people practise in a setting they know. Tell us what space you have and we will work it out together. We need:
- A main room with movable chairs.
- A few breakout corners.
- A separate room with a door for the crisis station.
- A quiet room anyone can step into.
Looking after learners
Many people have a personal connection to these topics, and the day is planned for that. It opens with a group agreement on confidentiality, a quiet room is always available, and anyone currently in crisis or recently bereaved by suicide is encouraged to defer without losing their place.
Learners who complete the day receive a certificate of completion from Life Safe, valid for three years from the practical day.
